After Degree Program
The After-Degree program is a program designed for holders of approved degrees. The degree can be completed in either Elementary or Secondary education, can be taken on-campus or as part of the collaborative (off-campus) program, and makes graduates eligible for teacher certification in Alberta. It will provide graduates with two student teaching experiences for a total of 14 weeks.
Admission
You must hold an approved degree from a recognized institution.
Elementary applicants should review the Elementary After-Degree Information Package.
Secondary applicants should contact Undergraduate Student Services to determine other necessary requirements for their specific program.

Elementary After Degree Program
All students in the Elementary Education Route must present at least *12 credits in the element subject areas, including at least *3 credits in English (see the After-Degree Admission package for more information).
The Elementary Education route includes 14 weeks of student teaching: the Introductory Professional Term (five weeks) and the Advanced Professional Term (nine weeks).
The Department of Elementary Education prepares teachers to teach all subjects and to facilitate the learning of all children at the elementary school level within our multicultural society. Teaching proficiency depends on knowledge of subject matter, pedagogy, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, professional ethics, sensitivity to and respect for children and the socio-cultural contexts in which they live, and an understanding of schooling in their social/political/economic environment. Developing attributes, fostering a sense of community, and building a strong professional commitment reflected in a personal philosophy of education are the intent of the Department of Elementary Education.

Secondary After Degree Program
All students in the Secondary Route must choose a Major and a Minor teaching subject. The program ranges from *48 credits for students having completed *36 credits in the Major, *18 in the Minor, *6 in English Language Literature, and *3 in Computing; to a maximum of 111 credits. You will know the length of the program after you apply and your prior coursework has been evaluated.
The Secondary Education route includes 14 weeks of student teaching: the Introductory Professional Term (five weeks) and the Advanced Professional Term (nine weeks). Students will teach in their Major subject specialization in both the Introductory Professional Term (IPT) and their Advanced Professional Term (APT)

Collaborative (Off-Campus) After Degree
Collaborative degrees allow students to earn a University of Alberta degree while studying on the campus of one of two different colleges in Alberta. These colleges are Red Deer College and Grande Prairie Regional College. Collaborative degrees are offered both as two year after degrees and as traditional four year degrees.
