Yes. The Faculty of Education is accepting applications directly from high school for the September 2012 intake.
Do High School courses and marks count towards entrance?
Yes.
Do students completing their first year at the University of Alberta have a better chance of being admitted?
No. All applicants to the Faculty of Education go into the general applicant admission pool and no preference is given to students attending any one institution.
What is the lowest GPA considered for admission?
The minimum GPA considered for admission to our programs is 2.0 or C on a 4-point scale. However, it is unlikely in many of our Major areas that a 2.0 would be a competitive average for admission.
What is a competitive GPA?
The admission average varies from year to year based on number of applications for the different areas.
How is the average calculated?
The GPA is calculated based on your most recent 24 units of course weight (if you completed 15 units of course weight in both term of your last year the calculation would be based on the 30 units of course weight). In cases where a student has completed less than 24 units of course weight in their last year , we will then go back to the previous year until we reach the required units of course weight. However, we will not split a term for calculation of the average which could mean that the calculation will be based on more than the 24 units of course weight.
What is the lowest grade acceptable for a transfer course?
This can vary depending on the institution from which you are transferring. The lowest grade accepted for transfer to the University of Alberta from a University is a 2 on the 4-point scale. Also any grade lower than 60% or lower than C- will not be transferable.
What is the application deadline and transcript deadline?
May 1st for the application, and June 15th for all documents required, such as final and official transcripts.
